Tokyo Lamp II

by Misewell

The Tokyo Lamps have a bare-bones and yet animated design. Like Misewell’s Eileen Lamp, there is whimsy in the angle as well as its role of allowing the lighting to cast over its subject. The twisted cord and industrial plug complete the utilitarian aesthetic.

Founded in 2008 by brothers Vincent and Paul Georgeson, Milwaukee based Misewell is fiercely committed to high quality design and production, while limiting the environmental impact of both. Employing contrasting materials of wood, aluminum and steel, Misewell furniture combines unique textures and quality of craft with precise modernist articulation.

The Georgeson brothers grew up south of Milwaukee, in Racine, WI where they spent hours observing and assisting their father in the family workshop. Both Vincent and Paul studied industrial design at the University of Wisconsin Stout, a five hour drive from home. The two had a three year overlap at university and spent many of those long drives brainstorming their future in furniture design. All is going according to plan – even bigger: at ICFF 2009, Misewell made a shining debut and won the coveted New Designer award. Since then the company has continued to received praise and editorials by the design press.
